Start of a month long Kerala fieldwork
A recent report on Kerala revealed that around 41% of the coast is eroding. To deal with this the Government of Kerala is looking for sustainable solutions.
Though 50% Kerala coast was protected with structures, understanding of the performance of structures is required. Hence, a detailed survey is planned to collect crucial information including coastal Geomorphology.
A team of 10 project scientists divided into 4 teams are travelling to Kerala today (9th August 2022). The team will be covering the entire 590Km long coast of Kerala spanning across 9 districts.
This study is being conducting in collaboration with Kerala Irrigation Department and will help in developing Shoreline Management plan for better management of coast.
