Amazing experience attending one-week long CRS Writing Retreat
🌟 Had an amazing experience attending the week-long Centrum för forskning om hållbar samhällsförändring (CRS) Writing Retreat last week packed with interesting sessions and seminars! 🌟
It was an incredible opportunity to dive deep into various aspects of academic writing, publishing strategies, and sustainability as a PhD student, while connecting with peers from diverse fields like sociology and Political science.
📚I had a chance to read and review texts from different disciplines, including my first-ever paper on child welfare services. It was fascinating to see how research and arguments are structured differently across domains that you have not worked on before.
📖 Magnus Åberg from Karlstad University’s library team led a fantastic workshop on the current research landscape, publishing strategies and the open access deals the university has currently. I learned about some great tools like Inciteful and LiU Journal Inspiration which are useful resources for researchers.
🌱We also had insightful discussions on sustainability as a PhD student. We discussed some real challenges like keeping up motivation between deadlines, navigating course schedules, and the sometimes difficult supervisor relationships. It was also great to explore ways to reduce stress, such as writing just 15 minutes a day or having safe, peer-supported discussions on topics like imposter syndrome.
Most importantly, this retreat reaffirmed how valuable it is to have a peer community where we can openly share, discuss, and support each other through our PhD journeys 🎉 . A huge thank you 🙏 to the CRS Research School for providing us with this platform and also to the participants who made it so rewarding to be involved in it.
