Project Scientist I (Remote Sensing)
(July 2022 - July 2024)
Work Description
Spearheading the development of pioneering shoreline management plans for key Indian states (Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala), leveraging advanced GIS and remote sensing techniques to inform policy and conservation efforts.
Integral in synthesizing geodata, including demographic and environmental factors, to yield a holistic view of coastal dynamics.
Pioneered UAV-based data acquisition, processing, and deep learning analysis, setting new standards for coastal environmental assessment. Piloted UAVs in different terrains ranging from coastal areas to rugged remote terrains like islands across multiple states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
Crafted and disseminated comprehensive technical reports, shaping coastal management and protection policies.
Engineered a bespoke field data collection app, optimizing the reporting of coastal structures and geomorphological features.
Conducted extensive field surveys, managed interdisciplinary collaborations, and leveraged stakeholder insights to integrate socio-economic data into environmental planning, enhancing the relevance and impact of coastal management strategies.
Authored and presented multiple impactful papers at national and international conferences, underscoring the scientific community’s recognition of our cutting-edge research.
Project Associate - GIS & Remote Sensing
(December 2021 - July 2022 )
Work Description
I joined the Wildlife Insitute of India (WII) in December 2021 as a Project Associate (GIS & RS). I worked under the supervision of Dr Bilal Habib.
Fostered multi-disciplinary collaborations, leading to the development of study-specific models for wildlife conservation and environmental management.
Spearheaded geospatial data analysis across varied ecological projects, enhancing habitat monitoring and conservation strategies.
Utilized a suite of GIS software to conduct spatial analyses, integrating diverse data sources for comprehensive environmental evaluations.
Pioneered UAV field data collection for critical wildlife-infrastructure conflict projects, contributing to the conservation of priority landscapes.
Played a pivotal role in research contribution to the scientific literature on forest fragmentation and landscape heterogeneity.
Research Intern
(November 2019 - March 2020)
Work Description
I joined EMI in November 2019 as part of their "Global Internship Program". My major activities at EMI during the internship period are summarized below.
GIS and Remote Sensing for Urban Resilience Boot Camp
Developing a concept note that clearly states and discusses the objectives of the training, the contents of the training, the target market, and the training methodology.
Structuring the training modules and the time budgeting of modules, exercises, and demos.
Content development of workbook, exercises, and lectures of module 1 of the boot camp, which is "Introduction to GIS and Urban Resilience".
Brochures and other promotional material development for the boot camp training.
Marketing the training through different social media platforms as well as through e-mail marketing with tools like Mailchimp.
Registration tracking and being the point of contact for this boot camp for all queries.
Program development activities of EMI
Research and technical support related to the development of EMI training programs, publications, promotional materials, and proposals.
Developed and implemented a LinkedIn marketing strategy aimed at enhancing the LinkedIn visibility of a non-profit organization such as EMI. During my internship, the EMI page's LinkedIn followers increased from 174 to 540 after implementing the strategy I developed, and they also received a few registrations for their training courses through LinkedIn reach.
Creating unique and intriguing infographics to enable the EMI project proposal to stand out from the crowd. I was also part of the EMI team that pitched proposals to the local Disaster Management Office of the Navotas region of the Philippines.
Developing promotional material to enhance EMI's social media presence and also to increase marketing reach and gain registrations for their training courses. The training courses for which I developed promotional material are "Integrated Emergency Management System(IEMS) Boot Camp" and "Gender Aspects of Disaster Recovery and Rehabilitation".
EMI's GIS / Remote Sensing Lab activities
Developing ArcGIS Pro training presentations and exercises for internal training of staff.
Gave an overview of the different ESRI suite tools like ArcGIS Online, Survey 123, App Studio, Story maps, and Web app builder to the GIS team and how they could make their workflow easier either for internal data sharing purposes or for field surveys.
Supporting the GIS needs of Tanzania Functional Exercises on Emergency Responses, a project of EMI.

Internship Reflection Report
Work Description
Joined as a Summer Research Intern at the Water and Climate Lab of IIT Gandhinagar in the summer of 2017 under the guidance of Prof. Vimal Mishra
The Project "Impact of vegetation and its spatial configuration on land surface temperature in Indian sub-continent" was started during this internship period.
Conducted comprehensive analysis of Landsat imagery to investigate Urban Heat Island effects across Indian cities, informing urban planning and sustainability efforts.
Examined the interplay between vegetation cover and land surface temperature, providing insights into effective environmental management practices.
Explored the spatial distribution of vegetation and its influence on mitigating land surface temperature, contributing to the field of urban ecology.
